Recently I've Been Up To!

Hi there! If you're on this page, it is really just about random activities I've done recently. Usually farmers markets, or day trips. I'll just be sharing little tid bits of my life here!

Cascade Day Trip

Starting with a fun fact: September 25 is now considered National Dolly Day!

Today my dad and I took the day off work to visit my grandma. On the way, we stopped so I could grab a dirty chai tea latte from one of my favorite coffee shops, Bigfoot Brew Coffee. They’re always amazing no matter what I order, and the customer service is consistently quick and friendly.

We spent some time at the house before heading to Lakefront Bar & Grill at the golf course for an early dinner. I started with clam chowder, then had fish and shrimp with mac and cheese and tots on the side. Everything was delicious.

On the drive home, we ended up seeing rainbows everywhere. We spotted a double rainbow and could even make out both ends, and later we saw a full rainbow that we managed to photograph just before it faded. It was such a pretty way to end the day.

Huckleberry roll and strawberry hibiscus drink at the Nampa Farmers Market

Nampa Farmers Market

We spent the morning walking around the Nampa Farmers Market and checking out all of the different booths. I usually already have a few regular vendors I like to visit, along with a couple new ones I want to try.

Today I tried a huckleberry roll from Bella's Bakery. It was similar to a cinnamon roll, but made with Idaho's staple berry, and it was absolutely delicious! I also got a freshly made strawberry hibiscus juice from Tere's Treats with a Tajín and chamoy rim.

We wandered around for a while and I somehow managed to avoid my usual wine tasting stop at Vizcaya Winery. They almost always have a booth with great wines to sample, but honestly, that's probably for the best considering I really do not need any more bottles in my collection right now.

Koe Wetzel Concert

After trying to see Koe Wetzel several times and somehow never having it work out, I finally made it to one of his shows! He’s easily one of my favorite artists from the current generation of country and rock, so I was ridiculously excited.

Bayker Blankenship opened the show, followed by Ole 60, and then finally Koe. I ended up running into quite a few people while we were there, which made the whole night even more fun.

At some point my feet were absolutely killing me, so I grabbed some amazing BBQ pulled pork mac and cheese and somehow found a chair tucked into a tree to sit and eat. Honestly, hiding in a tree with mac and cheese at a concert is probably one of the most accurate representations of me possible.

The whole show was amazing, and finally getting to see Koe live was absolutely worth the wait. I ended up getting sick afterward, which was unfortunate, but I’d still say the night was beyond worth it.

West Mountain Range, Cascade, ID

My dad and I headed up Snowbank Mountain today hoping to find some huckleberries. That very quickly turned into us driving all the way up the mountain and making our first stop at the weather tower.

On the way back down, we started picking wildflowers — and by “we,” I mostly mean he drove about fifteen feet at a time while I kept walking down the mountain and climbing back into the truck every so often. By the end of it, I had an entire bag full of flowers.

Once we got far enough down, we finally stopped to actually search for huckleberries. Unfortunately, we had absolutely no luck. The only berries we found were on a single bush along the side of the road, and they were nowhere near ready yet. We did run into a few people who wanted to know more about huckleberries, though, so we got to share what we knew, which was actually really fun.

Even though the berry hunt was a bust, I still came home with enough wildflowers to fill more than two vases. We stopped by my grandma’s on the way home so I could leave some with her too.

Lovely Hollow Farms

I decided to go to opening day for the season at Lovely Hollow Farms after a long day. It was absolutely beautiful, but also brutally hot with the sun beating down. The farm was busy and full of people, with plenty of local food and drink trucks around as well.

I spent some time picking flowers and putting together the perfect bouquet for myself. Despite basically roasting alive and ending up with heat exhaustion afterward, I still had a wonderful time.

Before heading home, I also grabbed a really good huckleberry lemonade, which was very much needed after spending so much time out in the heat.
